“Wanderers” was the project that really cemented my passion for rigging.

They’re not mind-blowing rigs, but each of them was a fun problem to solve. This was for the Summer 2018 studio course and that caused a bit of a time crunch in creating these rigs as well. Normally I would have at least a month for just one rig, but instead I knocked out these three in roughly 2-3 weeks.

The bipedal robot was an exercise in making a fairly basic rig.

The smaller robot had me figuring out how to create attributes that would control its wings and how to articulate its 4 legs while it glides through the air.

The larger, camel-like robot was my own creation. I modeled and UVed the robot and built the rig while rigging the other characters. The biggest problem to solve for this character was figuring out how its legs would bend. I eventually used an ikSpringSolver which, as its name suggests, makes the legs act as a spring and its internal algorithms do the calculation for each part of the leg instead of manually bending each leg.
