Photography is a new hobby of mine. These photos are from a series I did for Glen Vigus’ 312 photography course.
My parents are deaf and while spoken language is always considered colorful, I’ve always felt like sign language isn’t considered as valid of a language because of its physical nature. When someone talks about a language being colorful, they’re only thinking about spoken language.
So I took portrait photos of painted hands forming the signs of their respective colors, blue, red, green, orange, yellow, and purple. My goal was to show that sign language can be colorful and beautiful as well!
It was nice to create something that I felt so intimate with.
